Ongoing Classes

Enrichment Through the Arts Programs (Ages 5 and up)

All  three courses are $60 per student and include six Friday classes on November 3, 10, 17, December 1, 8, and 15, from 1:30-3:00PM. Some classes require an additional supply fee. 1.) Expressive Movement and Story ~ with Kathya Kaye (Ages 5-8)

An exploration of movement based on eurythmy. Children will hear stories and move in a way that brings them more fully into their bodies with mindfulness and breath. Drawing and simple crafts aid in bringing stories to life, culminating in a performance for parents at the end. Class meets in the Sunflower Kindergarten classroom. No supply fee.


2.) Clay Modeling ~ with Heather Lovetree (Ages 9-12)

A hands-on experience of form. Students will deepen their understanding of the human, animal, plant and mineral worlds as they model their forms out of clay. Stories, song and a mood of reverence will accom

pany this creative process. Class meets in the Fir classroom. $5 supply fee.


3.) Introduction to Veil Painting ~ with Cassidy Muckleston

(Ages 13-Adult)

An introduction to color experiences through veil painting. Students will learn the technique of slowly layering watercolor paint on stretched paper to create veils of color and light. This technique is slow and meditative process that creates space to go deeply into the world of color. Class meets in the Madrona classroom. Supply fees apply.


Cedar Root Folk School Programs

After School Wilderness Program (Ages 7-15)

Fall Semester Tuesdays, October 3—January 20,

3:15-5:15PM at Sunfield campus. $350

This program is designed for children in school that crave time exploring outside at the end of the day.  Our nature mentor team have been facilitating powerful experiences in nature for scores of students around East Jefferson County for a decade.


Nature Studies “Early Release” After School Program (Ages 6-16)

Fall Semester Fridays, October 6– January 26,

1:00-4:00PM at Sunfield campus. $400

This program combines the wisdom of wildcrafting plants and advanced survival skills to create an exceptional experience for our students. Students will pick from several projects to complete during this program.

Creation & Accelerating Technology: The Challenge of Staying Human in the 21st Century ~ with Meg and Peter Lumsdaine

Wednesday, October 18th from 6:30-8:00PM

Join us to explore the implications of protecting land, nature, and human community in an escalating technological era. Presenters Meg and Peter Lumsdaine are co-founders of the new Tree of Life Center. They will explore key impacts of the 21st century’s hyper-technological matrix, and discuss the ramifications that technology may increasingly bring to the lives of our children and future generations. $10-15 sliding scale donations.


Biodynamic Preparation Making Group ~ with Ezra Sullivan and Chris Reynolds (All Ages)

Friday, October 20th from 1:15-2:15PM


We will be making the Horn Manure Prep and burying it on the land at Sunfield Biodynamic Farm. Class is Free.


What is Waldorf Education? ~ A Lecture by David Axelrod

French Conversation Group ~ hosted by Leaf Eichten Lovetree

Monday, November 13th from 4:00-6:00PM

As a French major, Leaf has enjoyed keeping his second language proficient by maintaining friendships with francophones. We will converse in French as we walk around the farm and while we sit together to share food, drink, and conversation. Class will meet in the Fir classroom. $5-10 suggested donation.



Acoustic Music Concert ~ Leaf Eichten Lovetree & Simon de Voil

Saturday, December 2nd at 4:00PM

Classically inspired improvisation & singer songwriter originals. Some songs will have optional audience participation. Piano, guitar, ukulele, silver flute, viola. $15-20 suggested admission. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Contact Leaf at or 360.531.0208


Heavy Baby Workshop

Saturday, December 9th from 9:00-4:00PM

Create a beautiful heavy baby doll with the guidance of Molly Stebbins. This is a fun all day workshop where you will start and complete a doll sewing by hand and machine. $95 (includes instruction and supplies)
